Problem
You are running Notes client 6.5 with Instant Messaging. When you attempt to
log into instant messaging, the following errors occur:
Error logging in to instant messaging server, Instant Messaging error.
See status bar for details.
The status bar shows:
Instant messaging error code (0x800000223) or (0x80000021f)
Users may also see an error stating:
Invalid password.
Another error code the user may see is:
Instant messaging error code (0x80000221)
Solution
To work around this issue, edit the current Location document in the Notes
client. Open the Servers tab, change the value in the IBM Lotus Instant
Messaging Server to be the
fully qualified internet host name FQIN that appears in the Net Address field
on the Sametime server document (server.domain.com). Save and close the
document, then attempt to log in again.
The "Instant messaging error code (0x80000221)" error means that port access is
incorrect. The port may be set to 80 but the the Sametime server may not be
set to tunnel over port 80. Try changing the port to 1533.
Note: The error "Instant messaging error code (0x80000221)" may also appear in
the status bar of a Notes 6.5.x client when trying to log onto instant
messaging. In at least one instance, deleting the cache.ndk file resolved the
problem and allowed a successful logon to instant messaging.
