Problem

A MIME message that contains embedded HTML is received by a Notes user. When
the message is opened, however, images display with a distorted format. Frames
are not aligned; also, some graphics do not display.

Solution
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering and has been fixed in Notes
6.0.5 and 6.5.4.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.0.5 / 6.5.4 MR fix list
(available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):
Editor
SPR# KTOT5CRSZZ - Fixed a problem with MIME/HTML messages where the format was
distorted when opened in Notes. The frames were not aligned and some of the
graphics did not render. This problem has been fixed in 6.0.5 and 6.5.4. *Note:
The fixes for this and related sprs in Notes 6.0.5 and 6.5.4 can be disabled
via the Notes.ini parameter "Use60HTMLCode=1". The group of fixes that
collectively will be disabled via this Notes.ini parameter are: SPR #
MLAT65FT9F; SPR # MLAT65FTF8; SPR # MLAT65FTQG; SPR # KTOT5CRSZZ; SPR #
MCMA5MCJ3X; SPR # OLR5F7TCZ; SPR # PANN5SDD7Z; SPR # SSTN5FFSGS; SPR #
JBAA5MZTJJ; SPR # DMYG5KRPZD; SPR # BSPR5W9LFP.

There are no plans to address it in the R5 code stream.

The issue appears to be a limitation of viewing the messages with the Notes
browser. MIME-type Notes documents are rendered by the Notes editor, which
uses the Notes browser by default. This issue does not occur when viewing the
same document through iNotes or other web-based mail programs, such as
Hotmail.

A possible workaround is to set the User Preference in the Person document to
"Notes Rich Text" and convert the HTML to an attachment by using the following
NOTES.INI parameter:

MIME_CONVERT_HTML_TO_ATTACHMENT=1

Supporting Information:
Changing the recipient\'s default browser in the Location document to MS IE or
Netscape does not resolve the issue.

The MIME_CONVERT_HTML_TO_ATTACHMENT=1 parameter spins all of the HTML parts of
the message into one or more attachments named C.HTM for users with format
preference "Notes Rich Text" . The user can double-click the attachment(s),
and the browser will open and render the data correctly.
