Problem
In Notes and Domino 6, users have the ability to change their Internet password from a browser. Subsequent to a password change, the old password is cached by the server for two days. The password change is affected by processing of the \'Change HTTP Password in Domino Directory\' AdminP request. The two-day cache is to allow time for the Admin Requests and Domino Directory databases to replicate fully throughout the domain.
What if this default cache period is either too short or too long? Can the cache period be modified?
Solution
This issue was reported to Lotus Quality Engineering as SPR# AMOS5C7M5T, and was addressed in 6.0.
Refer to the Upgrade Central site for details on upgrading Notes/Domino.
Applying the notes.ini parameter "http_pwd_change_cache_hours=x" where x is the number of hours for which the old password is to be cached. During this period, both old and new passwords are valid, assuming the change has replicated to the server being accessed.
Supporting Information:
Currently there is no caching of the old password when Single Sign On (SSO) is implemented.
The field "Allow Users to Change Internet Password over HTTP" in the Password Management tab of the Security Settings document must be set to Yes.
